तां तथा पतितां दृष्ट्वा विरूपां शोणितोक्षिताम्।
भगिनीं क्रोधसन्तप्तः खरः पप्रच्छ राक्षसः॥
tāṁ tathā patitāṁ dṛṣṭvā virūpāṁ śoṇitokṣitām
bhaginīṁ krodha-santaptaḥ kharaḥ papraccha rākṣasaḥ
tām tathā patitām = thus fallen [on the ground]; dṛṣṭvā = seeing; virūpām = deformed; śoṇita-ukṣitām = and bleeding; bhaginīm = his elder sister; krodha-santaptaḥ = burned in anger; kharaḥ = Khara; papraccha = and inquired [as follows]; rākṣasaḥ = the rākṣasa.
Seeing his elder sister thus fallen [on the ground], deformed and bleeding, the rākṣasa Khara burned in anger and inquired [as follows].1
