Chapter 19: Khara Sends Fourteen Rākṣasas to Destroy Rāma
Text 3.19.26
इति प्रतिसमादिष्टा राक्षसास्ते चतुर्दश।
तत्र जग्मुस्तया सार्धं घना वातेरिता यथा॥
iti pratisamādiṣṭā rākṣasās te catur-daśa
tatra jagmus tayā sārdhaṁ ghanā vāteritā yathā
iti = in this manner; pratisamādiṣṭāḥ = instructed; rākṣasāḥ = rākṣasas; te = the; catuḥ-daśa = fourteen; tatra = to that place; jagmuḥ = went; tayā = her; sārdham = with; ghanāḥ = clouds; vāta-īritāḥ = moved by the wind; yathā = like.
Instructed in this manner, the fourteen rākṣasas went to that place with her like clouds moved by the wind.
Śūrpaṇakhā went to show them the way to reach Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa. It should be understood that she went even though she was not sent by Khara.
