चतुर्दश सहस्राणि मम चित्तानुवर्तिनाम्।
रक्षसां भीमवेगानां समरेष्वनिवर्तिनाम्॥
नीलजीमूतवर्णानां घोराणां क्रूरकर्मणाम्।
लोकहिंसाविहाराणां बलिनामुग्रतेजसाम्॥
तेषां शार्दूलदर्पाणां महास्यानां महौजसाम्।
सर्वोद्योगमुदीर्णानां रक्षसां सौम्य कारय॥
catur-daśa sahasrāṇi mama cittānuvartinām
rakṣasāṁ bhīma-vegānāṁ samareṣv anivartinām
nīla-jīmūta-varṇānāṁ ghorāṇāṁ krūra-karmaṇām
loka-hiṁsā-vihārāṇāṁ balinām ugra-tejasām
teṣāṁ śārdūla-darpāṇāṁ mahāsyānāṁ mahaujasām
sarvodyogam udīrṇānāṁ rakṣasāṁ saumya kāraya
catuḥ-daśa = there are fourteen; sahasrāṇi = thousand; mama = my; citta-anuvartinām = who follow mind; rakṣasām = rākṣasas; bhīma-vegānām = they proceed with a speed that is terrible; samareṣu = in battles; anivartinām = they don’t turn back; nīla-jīmūta-varṇānām = their complexion is that of dark blue clouds; ghorāṇām = and their appearance is terrible; krūra-karmaṇām = they perform cruel acts; loka-hiṁsā-vihārāṇām = and take pleasure in injuring people; balinām = they are strong; ugra-tejasām = and filled with great energy; teṣām = these; śārdūla-darpāṇām = they are arrogant like tigers; mahā-āsyānām = their faces are large; mahā-ojasām = and they are very vigorous; sarva-udyogam = to be fully prepared; udīrṇānām = and proud; rakṣasām = rākṣasas; saumya = O gentle one; kāraya = arrange for.
O gentle one, there are fourteen thousand rākṣasas who follow my mind. They proceed with a terrible speed. They don’t turn back in battles. Their complexion is that of dark blue clouds and their appearance is terrible. They perform cruel acts and take pleasure in injuring people. They are strong and filled with great energy. They are arrogant like tigers, their faces are large, and they are very vigorous and proud. Arrange for these rākṣasas to be fully prepared.
Mahāsyānām (“their faces are large”) indicates that their faces were deformed. Sarvodyogam . . . kāraya (“arrange for [them] to be fully prepared”) indicates that Dūṣaṇa should prepare the weapons, vehicles and so on for all [the fourteen thousand rākṣasas].
