Chapter 23: Khara Disregards Evil Omens on the Way
Text 3.23.4

ततो ध्वजमुपागम्य हेमदण्डं समुच्छ्रितम्।
समाक्रम्य महाकायस्तस्थौ गृध्रः सुदारुणः॥

tato dhvajam upāgamya hema-daṇḍaṁ samucchritam
samākramya mahā-kāyas tasthau gṛdhraḥ sudāruṇaḥ

tataḥ = then; dhvajam = the flag; upāgamya = approached; hema-daṇḍam = golden pole [on the chariot]; samucchritam = the tall; samākramya = circumambulated; mahā-kāyaḥ = a large-bodied; tasthau = and perched [on it]; gṛdhraḥ = vulture; sudāruṇaḥ = and very terrible.

Then a large-bodied and very terrible vulture approached the flag, circumambulated the tall golden pole [on the chariot] and perched [on it].
