Chapter 23: Khara Disregards Evil Omens on the Way
Text 3.23.18
सास्रा संपद्यते दृष्टिः पश्यमानस्य सर्वतः।
ललाटे च रुजा जाता न च मोहान्न्यवर्तत॥
sāsrā sampadyate dṛṣṭiḥ paśyamānasya sarvataḥ
lalāṭe ca rujā jātā na ca mohān nyavartata
sa-asrā sampadyate = were filled with tears; dṛṣṭiḥ = his eyes; paśyamānasya = while looking; sarvataḥ = all over; lalāṭe = his forehead; ca = and; rujā jātā = started to ache 3; na ca = not; mohāt = on account of ignorance; nyavartata = he still did desist.
While looking all over, his eyes were filled with tears and his forehead started to ache. On account of ignorance, he still did not desist.
Even upon seeing so many evil omens, Khara did not desist from going to war.
NOTE. This indicates that the demoniac are stubborn in their endeavors. Prabhupāda describes some of the other features of determined demons as follows:
They are always arrogant or proud in possessing some type of education or so much wealth. They desire to be worshiped by others, and demand respectability, although they do not command respect. Over trifles they become very angry and speak harshly, not gently. They do not know what should be done and what should not be done. They do everything whimsically, according to their own desire, and they do not recognize any authority. (Bhagavad-gītā 16.4 purport)
