पापमाचरतां घोरं लोकस्याप्रियमिच्छताम्।
अहमासादितो राज्ञा प्राणान्हन्तुं निशाचर॥१० ॥
pāpam ācaratāṁ ghoraṁ lokasyāpriyam icchatām
aham āsādito rājñā prāṇān hantuṁ niśācara
pāpam = sinful activities; ācaratām = of those who engage; ghoram = in terrible; lokasya = the world; apriyam icchatām = with the desire to displease; aham = I; āsāditaḥ = have been deputed; rājñā = by the king; prāṇān = the lives; hantum = to destroy; niśācara = O night-ranger.
O night-ranger, I have been deputed by the king to destroy the lives of those who engage in terrible sinful activities with the desire to displease the world.1
1 The very desire to displease the world is sinful because everyone and everything in this world belongs to the Supreme Personality of Godhead—īśāvāsyam idaṁ sarvam. We also belong to the Lord and as His servants we don’t have any authority to harm others in any manner. It should be understood that performing activities that superficially please others and factually harm them in the long run is also counted as an act performed to displease the world. While we try to please our Supreme Father, it is also our duty to refrain from harming our brothers and sisters. Therefore, anyone interested in doing the greatest good to others should engage in pure devotional service unto Supreme Personality of Godhead and help others engage in the same.
