एवमुक्त्वा ततो रामं संरुध्य भ्रुकुटीं ततः।
स ददर्श महासालमविदूरे निशाचरः।
रणे प्रहरणस्यार्थे सर्वतोह्यवलोकयन्॥
evam uktvā tato rāmaṁ saṁrudhya bhru-kuṭīṁ tataḥ
sa dadarśa mahā-sālam avidūre niśācaraḥ
raṇe praharaṇasyārthe sarvato hy avalokayan
evam = this; uktvā = saying; tataḥ = after; rāmam = to Lord Rāma; saṁrudhya bhru-kuṭīm = knitted his eyebrows; tataḥ = then; saḥ = the; dadarśa = he spotted; mahā-sālam = a large sāla tree; avidūre = not far from him; niśācaraḥ = night-ranger; raṇe = in the battle; praharaṇasya arthe = for something to strike with; sarvataḥ hi = all around him; avalokayan = and looked.
After saying this to Lord Rāma, the night-ranger knitted his eyebrows and looked all around him for something to strike with in the battle. He then spotted a large sāla tree not far from him.
