तमब्रवीद्दीप्तविशाललोचनम् प्रदर्शयित्वा भयमोहमूर्च्छिता।
सुदारुणं वाक्यमभीतचारिणी महात्मना शूर्पणखा विरूपिता॥
tam abravīd dīpta-viśāla-locanam
pradarśayitvā bhaya-moha-mūrcchitā
sudāruṇaṁ vākyam abhītacāriṇī
mahātmanā śūrpaṇakhā virūpitā
tam = to Rāvaṇa; abravīt = spoke; dīpta-viśāla-locanam = whose eyes became bright and wide; pradarśayitvā = displaying her condition; bhaya-moha-mūrcchitā = she was [now] in a frenzy of fear and delusion; sudāruṇam = [the following] very terrible; vākyam = words; abhītacāriṇī = who was fearless in conduct; mahā-ātmanā = by the greatly powerful [Rāmacandra]; śūrpaṇakhā = Śūrpaṇakhā; virūpitā = disfigured.
Disfigured by the greatly powerful [Rāmacandra], she was [now] in a frenzy of fear and delusion. Displaying her condition to Rāvaṇa whose eyes became bright and wide, Śūrpaṇakhā who was fearless in conduct spoke [the following] very terrible words.
[1] sāvitraṁ svarga-kāmaś cinvīta pañcāśīti-śatam hiraṇyeṣṭakāḥ. (Āpastamba)

This verse again summarizes [this chapter].
Śūrpaṇakhā had wandered about [in the past] among all men and in all worlds. She revealed that she had been disfigured.1
