राक्षसेन्द्रं महाभागं पौलस्त्यकुलनन्दनम्।
रावणं शत्रुहन्तारं मन्त्रिभिः परिवारितम्।
अभिगम्याब्रवीद्वाक्यं राक्षसी भयविह्वला॥
rākṣasendraṁ mahā-bhāgaṁ paulastya-kula-nandanam
rāvaṇaṁ śatru-hantāraṁ mantribhiḥ parivāritam
abhigamyābravīd vākyaṁ rākṣasī bhaya-vihvalā
rākṣasa-indram = lord of the rākṣasas; mahā-bhāgam = that greatly opulent; paulastya-kula-nandanam = the delight of Pulastya’s dynasty; rāvaṇam = Rāvaṇa; śatru-hantāram = and destroyer of his foes; mantribhiḥ = by his ministers; parivāritam = was surrounded; abhigamya = approaching; abravīt = spoke; vākyam = [the following] words; rākṣasī = the rākṣasī; bhaya-vihvalā = who had become overwhelmed with fear.
Rāvaṇa, the delight of Pulastya’s dynasty and destroyer of his foes, was surrounded by his ministers. Approaching that greatly opulent lord of the rākṣasas, the rākṣasī who had become overwhelmed with fear spoke [the following] words.
