Chapter 33: Śūrpaṇakhā Criticizes Rāvaṇa
Text 3.33.17
नानुतिष्ठति कार्याणि भयेषु न बिभेति च।
क्षिप्रं राज्याच्च्युतो दीनस्तृणैस्तुल्यो भविष्यति॥
nānutiṣṭhati kāryāṇi bhayeṣu na bibheti ca
kṣipraṁ rājyāc cyuto dīnas tṛṇais tulyo bhaviṣyati
na = not; anutiṣṭhati = he does do; kāryāṇi = what he is supposed to do; bhayeṣu = when there are causes of fear; na bibheti = has no fear; ca = and; kṣipram = quickly; rājyāt = from his post of kingship; cyutaḥ = he falls; dīnaḥ = wretched; tṛṇaiḥ = to [mere] grass; tulyaḥ = and equal; bhaviṣyati = and becomes.
He does not do what he is supposed to do and has no fear when there are causes of fear. He quickly falls from his post of kingship and becomes wretched and equal to [mere] grass.
