Chapter 33: Śūrpaṇakhā Criticizes Rāvaṇa
Text 3.33.22
त्वं तु रावण दुर्बुद्धिर्गुणैरेतैर्विवर्जितः।
यस्य तेऽविदितश्चारै रक्षसां सुमहान्वधः॥
tvaṁ tu rāvaṇa durbuddhir guṇair etair vivarjitaḥ
yasya te ’viditaś cārai rakṣasāṁ sumahān vadhaḥ
tvam tu = you; rāvaṇa = Rāvaṇa; durbuddhiḥ = are foolish; guṇaiḥ = good qualities; etaiḥ = of these; vivarjitaḥ = and devoid; yasya te = your; aviditaḥ = you haven’t learnt; cāraiḥ = through spies; rakṣasām = of the rākṣasas; sumahān = about the very great; vadhaḥ = slaughter.
Rāvaṇa, you are foolish and devoid of these good qualities. You haven’t learnt about the very great slaughter of the rākṣasas through your spies.
Śūrpaṇakhā then summarizes [what she has spoken about him in this] chapter in a single verse [as follows].
