Chapter 35: Rāvaṇa Goes to Meet Mārīca Again
Text 3.35.1
ततः शूर्पणखावाक्यं तच्छ्रुत्वा रोमहर्षणम्।
सचिवानभ्यनुज्ञाय कार्यं बुद्ध्वा जगाम सः॥
tataḥ śūrpaṇakhā-vākyaṁ tac chrutvā roma-harṣaṇam
sacivān abhyanujñāya kāryaṁ buddhvā jagāma saḥ
tataḥ = and then; śūrpaṇakhā-vākyam = words of Śūrpaṇakhā; tat = the; śrutvā = after hearing; roma-harṣaṇam = that made his hair stand on end; sacivān = his assistants; abhyanujñāya = dismissed; kāryam = what he had to do; buddhvā = understood; jagāma = departed; saḥ = he.
After hearing the words of Śūrpaṇakhā that made his hair stand on end, he understood what he had to do, dismissed his assistants and then departed.

I take shelter of Lord Viṣṇu, the glory of whose vehicle astonishes everyone, and who appeared in the dynasty of Raghu.1
Rāvaṇa’s hair stood on end since [Śūrpaṇakhā’s words] generated fear [in him].
