Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 36: Rāvaṇa Requests Mārīca to Help him
Text 3.36.7
तेन सञ्जातरोषेण रामेण रणमूर्धनि।
अनुक्त्वा परुषं किञ्चिच्छरैर्व्यापारितं धनुः॥
tena sañjāta-roṣeṇa rāmeṇa raṇa-mūrdhani
anuktvā paruṣaṁ kiñcic charair vyāpāritaṁ dhanuḥ
tena sañjāta-roṣeṇa = whose fury had risen; rāmeṇa = Rāma; raṇa-mūrdhani = in the forefront of the battle; anuktvā = without uttering; paruṣam = harsh; kiñcit = anything; śaraiḥ = and arrows; vyāpāritam = set to work; dhanuḥ = His bow.
Rāma, whose fury had risen, set to work His bow and arrows in the forefront of the battle without uttering anything harsh!
“Without uttering anything harsh” is indicative of Rāma’s gravity. Rāma had “set to work His bows and arrows,” that is, He fixed [the arrows on His bow] and released [them].
