राक्षसाभ्यामहं द्वाभ्यामनिर्विण्णस्तथाकृतः।
सहितो मृगरूपाभ्यां प्रविष्टो दण्डकावनम्॥
rākṣasābhyām ahaṁ dvābhyām anirviṇṇas tathā-kṛtaḥ
sahito mṛga-rūpābhyāṁ praviṣṭo daṇḍakā-vanam
rākṣasābhyām = rākṣasas; aham = I; dvābhyām anirviṇṇaḥ = was not dejected; tathā-kṛtaḥ = though dealt with in this manner; sahitaḥ = with two; mṛga-rūpābhyām = in the form of deer; praviṣṭaḥ = I entered; daṇḍakā-vanam = Daṇḍakāraṇya.
Though dealt with in this manner, I was not dejected. I entered Daṇḍakāraṇya with two rākṣasas in the form of deer.
1 In other words, Mārīca, as a true positive thinker, didn’t think that he should stop all of his demoniac activities at that time. Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: anirviṇṇaḥ nirveda-rahitaḥ. nirvedo niṣphalatva-dhīḥ. aprāpta-tad-viṣaya-pravṛtti-vairāgya ity arthaḥ.
“Though dealt with in this manner, I was not dejected” means “Though I was brought to a position of crisis as described, I didn’t think that I was [always] bound to fail [in my endeavors].”1
