इदं वचो बन्धुहितार्थिना मया यथोच्यमानं यदि नाभिपत्स्यसे।
सबान्धवस्त्यक्ष्यसि जीवितं रणे हतोऽद्य रामेण शरैरजिह्मगैः॥
idaṁ vaco bandhu-hitārthinā mayā
yathocyamānaṁ yadi nābhipatsyase
sabāndhavas tyakṣyasi jīvitaṁ raṇe
hato ’dya rāmeṇa śarair ajihmagaiḥ
idam = these; vacaḥ = words; bandhu-hita-arthinā = as your friend and well-wisher; mayā yathā ucyamānam = that I have spoken for your factual good; yadi = if; na = not; abhipatsyase = you do accept; sa-bāndhavaḥ = and your relatives; tyakṣyasi = you will lose; jīvitam = your lives; raṇe = in battle; hataḥ = upon being slain; adya = today; rāmeṇa = Rāma; śaraiḥ = with His arrows; ajihmagaiḥ = which fly straight [to their targets].
If you do not accept these words that I have spoken for your factual good as your friend and well-wisher, you and your relatives will lose your lives today in battle, upon being slain by Rāma with His arrows which fly straight [to their targets].1
