Chapter 40: Rāvaṇa Criticizes Mārīca
Text 3.40.5
यस्त्यक्त्वा सुहृदो राज्यं मातरं पितरं तथा।
स्त्रीवाक्यं प्राकृतं श्रुत्वा वनमेकपदे गतः॥
yas tyaktvā suhṛdo rājyaṁ mātaraṁ pitaraṁ tathā
strī-vākyaṁ prākṛtaṁ śrutvā vanam eka-pade gataḥ
yaḥ = [after all, He is the one] who; tyaktvā = gave up; suhṛdaḥ = His well-wishers; rājyam = kingdom; mātaram = mother; pitaram = father; tathā = and; strī-vākyam = words of a woman; prākṛtam = the useless; śrutvā = upon hearing; vanam = to the forest; eka-pade = and immediately; gataḥ = went.
[After all, He is the one] who gave up His well-wishers, kingdom, mother and father upon hearing the useless words of a woman and immediately went to the forest.1

“The useless words of a woman” refers to the words of Kaikeyī.
