आसाद्य तं जीवितसंशयस्ते मृत्युर्ध्रुवो ह्यद्य मया विरुध्य।
एतद्यथावत्प्रतिगृह्य बुद्ध्या यदत्र पथ्यं कुरु तत्तथा त्वम्॥
āsādya taṁ jīvita-saṁśayas te
mṛtyur dhruvo hy adya mayā virudhya
etad yathāvat pratigṛhya buddhyā
yad atra pathyaṁ kuru tat tathā tvam
āsādya = after you approach in the form of a deer; tam = Rāma; jīvita-saṁśayaḥ = it is doubtful if you will survive; te = your; mṛtyuḥ = death; dhruvaḥ hi = is certain; adya = [to take place] today; mayā = me; virudhya = [if] you oppose; etat = this; yathāvat = properly; pratigṛhya = ascertain; buddhyā = with your intelligence; yat = which; atra = among these two options; pathyam = is beneficial; kuru = do; tat = that; tathā tvam = and.
It is doubtful if you will survive after you approach Rāma in the form of a deer. [If] you oppose me, your death is certain [to take place] today. Ascertain this properly with your intelligence and do that which is beneficial among these two options.1
If Mārīca didn’t do what Rāvaṇa had stated and opposed him, he would certainly be killed [on the spot].1
