Chapter 43: Sītā Sees the Magical Deer
Text 3.43.8
मृगो ह्येवंविधो रत्नविचित्रो नास्ति राघव।
जगत्यां जगतीनाथ मायैषा हि न संशयः॥
mṛgo hy evaṁ-vidho ratna-vicitro nāsti rāghava
jagatyāṁ jagatī-nātha māyaiṣā hi na saṁśayaḥ
mṛgaḥ hi = deer; evam-vidhaḥ = like this; ratna-vicitraḥ = freckled with jewel-like spots; na = no; asti = there is; rāghava = O descendant of Raghu; jagatyām = on earth; jagatī-nātha = and Lord of the earth; māyā = an illusion; eṣā hi = this is certainly; na = no; saṁśayaḥ = doubt.
O descendant of Raghu and Lord of the earth, there is no deer freckled with jewel-like spots like this on earth. This is certainly an illusion, no doubt.
