तेन काञ्चनरोम्णा तु मणिप्रवरशृङ्गिणा।
तरुणादित्यवर्णेन नक्षत्रपथवर्चसा।
बभूव राघवस्यापि मनो विस्मयमागतम्॥
tena kāñcana-romṇā tu maṇi-pravara-śṛṅgiṇā
taruṇāditya-varṇena nakṣatra-patha-varcasā
babhūva rāghavasyāpi mano vismayam āgatam
tena = by that deer; kāñcana-romṇā tu = whose hair was golden in color; maṇi-pravara-śṛṅgiṇā = whose horns resembled the best of gems; taruṇa-āditya-varṇena = whose complexion was that of the rising sun; nakṣatra-patha-varcasā = and which exhibited the luster of the firmament; babhūva = appeared to become; rāghavasya = Rāghava’s; api = even; manaḥ = mind; vismayam āgatam = astonished.
Even Rāghava’s mind appeared to become astonished by that deer whose hair was golden in color, whose horns resembled the best of gems, whose complexion was that of the rising sun and which exhibited the luster of the firmament.1

“The best of gems” referred to herein is sapphire. The deer’s complexion was that of the rising sun because its hair was golden in complexion. The deer “exhibited the luster of the firmament” because it was characterized by spots that resembled stars.
