Chapter 44: Śrī Rāma Kills Mārīca
Text 3.44.1

तथा तु तं समादिश्य भ्रातरं रघुनन्दनः।
बबन्धासिं महातेजा जाम्बुनदमयत्सरुम्॥

tathā tu taṁ samādiśya bhrātaram raghunandanaḥ
babandhāsiṁ mahā-tejā jāmbunadamaya-tsarum

tathā tu = thus; tam1 samādiśya = having instructed; bhrātaram = His brother; raghunandanaḥ = Raghunandana; babandha = took hold of; asim = His sword; mahā-tejāḥ = of great prowess; jāmbunadamaya-tsarum = with a golden handle 1.

Having instructed His brother thus, Raghunandana, the possessor of great prowess, took hold of His sword which had a golden handle.

I worship Him who engaged in humanlike pastimes. With something else in mind, He followed the magical deer as if He didn’t know [about its true nature] and quickly killed it.

This chapter describes how Mārīca was killed.

1 Technical note: tam bhrātaram.
