Chapter 46: Rāvaṇa Disguises Himself and Approaches Sītā
Text 3.46.10
स पापो भव्यरूपेण तृणैः कूप इवावृतः।
अतिष्ठत्प्रेक्ष्य वैदेहीं रामपत्नीं यशस्विनीम्॥
sa pāpo bhavya-rūpeṇa tṛṇaiḥ kūpa ivāvṛtaḥ
atiṣṭhat prekṣya vaidehīṁ rāma-patnīṁ yaśasvinīm
saḥ = that; pāpaḥ = sinner; bhavya-rūpeṇa = in the guise of a gentleman; tṛṇaiḥ = with grass; kūpaḥ = a well; iva = like; āvṛtaḥ = concealed; atiṣṭhat = stood; prekṣya = noticing; vaidehīm = Vaidehī; rāma-patnīm = wife of Lord Rāma; yaśasvinīm = the illustrious.
Noticing Vaidehī, the illustrious wife of Lord Rāma, that sinner stood in the guise of a gentleman like a well concealed with grass.
