Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 46: Rāvaṇa Disguises Himself and Approaches Sītā
Text 3.46.23
रूपमग्र्यं च लोकेषु सौकुमार्यं वयश्च ते।
इह वासश्च कान्तारे चित्तमुन्मादयन्ति मे॥
rūpam agryaṁ ca lokeṣu saukumāryaṁ vayaś ca te
iha vāsaś ca kāntāre cittam unmādayanti me
rūpam agryam = is most excellent; ca = charm; lokeṣu = in [all] the worlds; saukumāryam = you are very youthful; vayaḥ ca = in age; te = your; iha = here; vāsaḥ = you reside; ca = and; kāntāre = in the forest; cittam = mind; unmādayanti = all these bewilder; me = my.
Your charm is most excellent in [all] the worlds, you are very youthful in age and you reside in the forest here. All these bewilder my mind.
All these bewildered Rāvaṇa’s mind because her charm and very youthful age contradicted her residence in the forest. In other words, he wishes to tell her, “I cannot conclude why you have come here.”
