Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 47: Rāvaṇa Reveals his Identity to Sītā
Text 3.47.4
उषित्वा द्वादश समा इक्ष्वाकूणां निवेशने।
भुञ्जाना मानुषान्भोगान्सर्वकामसमृद्धिनी॥
uṣitvā dvādaśa samā ikṣvākūṇāṁ niveśane
bhuñjānā mānuṣān bhogān sarva-kāma-samṛddhinī
uṣitvā = while residing; dvādaśa = for twelve; samāḥ = years; ikṣvākūṇām = of the Ikṣvākus; niveśane = in the residence; bhuñjānā = while I experienced; amānuṣān = superhuman; bhogān = delights [there]; sarva-kāma-samṛddhinī = I was prosperous with all sorts of items of enjoyment.
While residing in the residence of the Ikṣvākus for twelve years, I was prosperous with all sorts of items of enjoyment while I experienced superhuman delights [there].
After her wedding, she lived in Ayodhyā, the residence of the Ikṣvākus, for twelve years. At that time, she was prosperous with all sorts of items of enjoyment such as garlands and sandalwood, and she experienced divine delights difficult for humans to attain.
Bhuñjānā mānuṣān can also be read as bhuñjānā amānuṣān which indicates that she experienced humanlike delights [there] since Lord Rāma had descended like a human being. “Humanlike” indicates that her sources of happiness were distinct from animalistic [sources of happiness].
[In some manuscripts sarva-kāma-samṛddhini is found instead of sarva-kāma-samṛddhinī which indicates that] the residence of her husband Rāma, who descended in the dynasty of Ikṣvāku, was filled with all kinds of objects of enjoyment.
