दद्यान्न प्रतिगृह्णीयात्सत्यं ब्रूयान्न चानृतम्।
एतद्ब्राह्मण रामस्य ध्रुवं व्रतमनुत्तमम्॥
dadyān na pratigṛhṇīyāt satyaṁ brūyān na cānṛtam
etad brāhmaṇa rāmasya dhruvaṁ vratam anuttamam
dadyāt = He should give in charity; na = and not; pratigṛhṇīyāt = accept [anything] in charity; satyam = the truth; brūyāt = He should speak; na = not; ca = and; anṛtam = untruth; etat = this; brāhmaṇa = O brāhmaṇa; rāmasya = that Śrī Rāma; dhruvam = is the unshaken; vratam = vow; anuttamam = always observes.
1 It is hinted that He gives those who seek Him whatever they need and that He is always self-satisfied—therefore He never accepts anything from anyone else. Technical note: atra dadyād ity anena arthināṁ yāvad-apekṣitaṁ vastu dadātīty uktaṁ bhavati. na pratigṛhṇīyād ity anena avāpta-sakala-kāmatvaṁ vyajyate.
2 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: anuttamam avaśya-paripālanīyam.
