Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 47: Rāvaṇa Reveals his Identity to Sītā
Text 3.47.16
तथेत्युक्त्वा च तां रामः कैकेयीमकुतोभयः।
चकार तद्वचस्तस्या मम भर्ता दृढव्रतः॥
tathety uktvā ca tāṁ rāmaḥ kaikeyīm akutobhayaḥ
cakāra tad vacas tasyā mama bhartā dṛḍha-vrataḥ
tathā iti = alright; uktvā ca tām1 = and told; rāmaḥ = Śrī Rāma; kaikeyīm = Kaikeyī-devī; akutobhayaḥ = absolutely fearless; cakāra = carried out; tat = those; vacaḥ = instructions; tasyāḥ = given by her; mama = My; bhartā = husband; dṛḍha-vrataḥ = of firm vows.
My absolutely fearless husband Śrī Rāma, whose vows were firm, told Kaikeyī-devī, “Alright,” and carried out those instructions given by her.
1 Technical note: tām kaikeyīm.
Lord Rāma was absolutely fearless, that is, devoid of the fear of losing His kingdom and residing in a forest.
In the next verse, Sītā-devī proves that Lord Rāma’s vows were firm.
