Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 49: Rāvaṇa Kidnaps Sītā
Text 3.49.25

जीवितं सुखमर्थांश्च धर्महेतोः परित्यजन्।
ह्रियमाणामधर्मेण मां राघव न पश्यसि॥

jīvitaṁ sukham arthāṁś ca dharma-hetoḥ parityajan
hriyamāṇām adharmeṇa māṁ rāghava na paśyasi

jīvitam = Your life; sukham = happiness; arthān = objects of enjoyment; ca = and; dharma-hetoḥ = for the sake of dharma; parityajan = You have abandoned; hriyamāṇām = being abducted; adharmeṇa = through adharma; mām = me; rāghava = Rāghava; na paśyasi = don’t You see.

Rāghava, You have abandoned Your life, happiness and objects of enjoyment for the sake of dharma! Don’t You see me being abducted through adharma?1

Lord Rāma is habituated to give up everything—His life, happiness and objects of enjoyment—just to fulfill His dharma of providing complete protection to those who surrender [unto Him].

1 Technical note: māṁ na paśyasi kiṁ na jānāsi. We have rendered the previous verse in a similar fashion based on the same idiomatic usage.
