Chapter 49: Rāvaṇa Kidnaps Sītā
Text 3.49.28
स कर्म कृतवानेतत्कालोपहतचेतनः।
जीवितान्तकरं घोरं रामाद्व्यसनमाप्नुहि॥
sa karma kṛtavān etat kālopahata-cetanaḥ
jīvitāntakaraṁ ghoraṁ rāmād vyasanam āpnuhi
saḥ = [and therefore] you; karma = activity; kṛtavān = have performed; etat = this; kāla-upahata-cetanaḥ = [Rāvaṇa,] your mind is disturbed by the force of time; jīvita-antakaram = which will end your life; ghoram = terrible; rāmāt = because of Rāma; vyasanam āpnuhi = now experience your ruin 2.
[Rāvaṇa,] your mind is disturbed by the force of time [and therefore] you have performed this terrible activity which will end your life.1 Now experience your ruin because of Rāma!
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: saḥ tvam ity arthaḥ. Technical note: rāvaṇam uddiśyāha tvam iti.
