Chapter 53: Sītā Chastises Rāvaṇa
Text 3.53.11
न हि चक्षुष्पथं प्राप्य तयोः पार्थिवपुत्रयोः।
ससैन्योऽपि समर्थस्त्वं मुहूर्तमपि जीवितुम्॥
na hi cakṣuṣ-pathaṁ prāpya tayoḥ pārthiva-putrayoḥ
sasainyo ’pi samarthas tvaṁ muhūrtam api jīvitum
na hi = not; cakṣuḥ-patham prāpya = [even] if you come within the vision; tayoḥ = of those two; pārthiva-putrayoḥ = princes; sasainyaḥ = you have an army with you; api = [and that is] even if; samarthaḥ = will be able; tvam = you; muhūrtam = for a muhūrta; api = even; jīvitum = to survive.
[Even] if you come within the vision of those two princes, you will not be able to survive for even a muhūrta—[and that is] even if you have an army with you.
Anticipating that Rāvaṇa might ask, “How will it be impossible to survive just upon being seen [by Them]?” Sītā-devī speaks the next verse.
