Chapter 53: Sītā Chastises Rāvaṇa
Text 3.53.17
न नूनं चात्मनः श्रेयः पथ्यं वा समवेक्षसे।
मृत्युकाले यथा मर्त्यो विपरीतानि सेवते॥
na nūnaṁ cātmanaḥ śreyaḥ pathyaṁ vā samavekṣase
mṛtyu-kāle yathā martyo viparītāni sevate
na nūnam ca = not; ātmanaḥ = your; śreyaḥ = auspiciousness; pathyam = future happiness; vā = or; samavekṣase = you do consider; mṛtyu-kāle = at the time of his death; yathā = like; martyaḥ = a mortal; viparītāni = to those things that injure his interests; sevate = resorting.
You do not consider your auspiciousness or future happiness, like a mortal at the time of his death resorting to those things that injure his interests.1
