Chapter 53: Sītā Chastises Rāvaṇa
Text 3.53.23
बद्धस्त्वं कालपाशेन दुर्निवारेण रावण।
क्व गतो लप्स्यसे शर्म भर्तुर्मम महात्मनः॥
baddhas tvaṁ kāla-pāśena durnivāreṇa rāvaṇa
kva gato lapsyase śarma bhartur mama mahātmanaḥ
baddhaḥ = are caught; tvam = you; kāla-pāśena = in the noose of death; durnivāreṇa = unrestrainable; rāvaṇa = O Rāvaṇa; kva gataḥ = where will you to; lapsyase = to find; śarma = auspiciousness; bhartuḥ = [after offending] husband; mama = my; mahā-ātmanaḥ = a great soul.
O Rāvaṇa, you are caught in the unrestrainable noose of death. Where will you go to find auspiciousness [after offending] my husband, a great soul?
Anticipating that Rāvaṇa might tell her, “I will take you to another place. So I am not afraid of Rāma,” Sītā speaks this verse. [She points out that] there is no place to which Rāvaṇa can go to find auspiciousness [for himself].
