Chapter 54: Rāvaṇa Brings Sītā to Laṅkā
Text 3.54.8
तिमिनक्र-निकेतं तु वरुणालयमक्षयम्।
सरितां शरणं गत्वा समतीयाय सागरम्॥
timi-nakra-niketaṁ tu varuṇālayam akṣayam
saritāṁ śaraṇaṁ gatvā samatīyāya sāgaram
timi-nakra-niketam tu = it was the abode of timis and crocodiles; varuṇa-ālayam = abode of Varuṇa; akṣayam = the eternal; saritām = of the rivers; śaraṇam = and the goal; gatvā = he reached and; samatīyāya = then gradually crossed over it; sāgaram = the ocean.
He reached the ocean and then gradually crossed over it. It was the abode of timis and crocodiles, the eternal abode of Varuṇa and the goal of the rivers.
Timis are a certain kind of fish.
