Chapter 55: Rāvaṇa Flatters Sītā
Text 3.55.6
तां तु शोकपरां दीनामवशां राक्षसाधिपः।
स बलाद्दर्शयामास गृहं देवगृहोपमम्॥
tāṁ tu śoka-parāṁ dīnām avaśāṁ rākṣasādhipaḥ
sa balād darśayām āsa gṛhaṁ deva-gṛhopamam
tām tu = her; śoka-parām = she was grief-stricken; dīnām = and dejected; avaśām = [though] she was uninterested in seeing it; rākṣasa-adhipaḥ = lord of the rākṣasas; saḥ = the; balāt = forcibly; darśayām āsa = showed; gṛham = his residence; deva-gṛha-upamam = which resembled a residence of the gods.
She was grief-stricken and dejected. The lord of the rākṣasas forcibly showed her his residence which resembled a residence of the gods [though] she was uninterested in seeing it.
His residence is described in the next two verses.
