Chapter 55: Rāvaṇa Flatters Sītā
Text 3.55.24
न शक्यो वायुराकाशे पाशैर्बद्धुं महाजवः।
दीप्यमानस्य वाप्यग्नेर्गृहीतुं विमला शिखा॥
na śakyo vāyur ākāśe pāśair baddhuṁ mahā-javaḥ
dīpyamānasya vāpy agner gṛhītuṁ vimalā śikhā
na = not; śakyaḥ = it is possible; vāyuḥ = the wind; ākāśe = in the sky; pāśaiḥ = with ropes; baddhum = to bind; mahā-javaḥ = of great speed; dīpyamānasya = of the blazing; vā api = or; agneḥ = fire; gṛhītum = to grab; vimalā = the smokeless; śikhā = flame.
It is not possible to bind the wind of great speed with ropes in the sky or to grab the smokeless flame of the blazing fire.
