Chapter 56: Sītā is Taken to Aśoka-vana
Text 3.57.3
रामो नाम स धर्मात्मा त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः।
दीर्घबाहुर्विशालाक्षो दैवतं हि पतिर्मम॥
rāmo nāma sa dharmātmā triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ
dīrgha-bāhur viśālākṣo daivataṁ hi patir mama
rāmaḥ = Rāma; nāma = named; saḥ = that son of King Daśaratha; dharma-ātmā = is a dhārmika soul; triṣu = in the three; lokeṣu = worlds; viśrutaḥ = who is famous; dīrgha-bāhuḥ = His arms are long; viśāla-akṣaḥ = and His eyes are wide; daivatam = He is the worshipable deity for all the worlds; hi = indeed; patiḥ = husband; mama = He is my.
That son of King Daśaratha is a dhārmika soul named Rāma who is famous in the three worlds. His arms are long and His eyes are wide. Indeed, He is the worshipable deity for all the worlds. He is my husband.
She implies, “How can a lady with such a husband transgress [Vedic dharma]?”
