Chapter 56: Sītā is Taken to Aśoka-vana
Text 3.57.34
सा तु शोकपरीताङ्गी मैथिली जनकात्मजा।
राक्षसीवशमापन्ना व्याघ्रीणां हरिणी यथा॥
sā tu śoka-parītāṅgī maithilī janakātmajā
rākṣasī-vaśam āpannā vyāghrīṇāṁ hariṇī yathā
sā tu = the; śoka-parīta-aṅgī = and her body was overcome by distress; maithilī = Maithilī; janaka-ātmajā = daughter of King Janaka; rākṣasī-vaśam = under the control of the rākṣasīs; āpannā = having come; vyāghrīṇām = among tigresses; hariṇī = a doe; yathā = became like.
Having come under the control of the rākṣasīs, the daughter of King Janaka, Maithilī, became like a doe among tigresses, and her body was overcome by distress.
