Chapter 58: Rāma Reaches His Āśrama in Anxiety

पतित्वममराणां वा पृथिव्याश्चापि लक्ष्मण।
तां विना तपनीयाभां नेच्छेयं जनकात्मजाम्॥
patitvam amarāṇāṁ vā pṛthivyāś cāpi lakṣmaṇa
tāṁ vinā tapanīyābhāṁ neccheyaṁ janakātmajām
patitvam = to become the lord; amarāṇām = of the immortals; vā = or; pṛthivyāḥ ca = [the lord] of the earth; api = even; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; tām = that; vinā = without; tapanīyābhām = the lady who has the complexion of molten gold; na = no; iccheyam = I have desire; janaka-ātmajām = daughter of King Janaka.
Lakṣmaṇa, without that daughter of King Janaka, the lady who has the complexion of molten gold, I have no desire to become the lord of the immortals or even [the lord] of the earth.
