Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 59: Rāma Chastises Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.59.21

एवं ब्रुवाणं सौमित्रिं रामः सन्तापमोहितः।
अब्रवीद्दुष्कृतं सौम्य तां विना यत्त्वमागतः॥

evaṁ bruvāṇaṁ saumitriṁ rāmaḥ santāpa-mohitaḥ
abravīd duṣkṛtaṁ saumya tāṁ vinā yat tvam āgataḥ

evam = thus; bruvāṇam = spoke; saumitrim = when Saumitri; rāmaḥ = Rāma; santāpa-mohitaḥ = who was perplexed in distress; abravīt = told Him; duṣkṛtam = is wrong; saumya = gentle one; tām = her; vinā = without; yat = that; tvam = You; āgataḥ = came [here].

When Saumitri spoke thus, Rāma, who was perplexed in distress, told Him: Gentle one, that You came [here] without her is wrong.

Lord Rāma elaborates on this in the next verse.
