शराहतेनैव तदार्तया गिरा स्वरं ममालम्ब्य सुदूरसंश्रवम्।
उदाहृतं तद्वचनं सुदारुणं त्वमागतो येन विहाय मैथिलीम्॥
śarāhatenaiva tadārtayā girā
svaraṁ mamālambya sudūra-saṁśravam
udāhṛtaṁ tad vacanaṁ sudāruṇaṁ
tvam āgato yena vihāya maithilīm
śara-āhatena eva tadā = as soon as he was struck by the arrow; ārtayā = in a plaintive; girā = voice; svaram = voice; mama = My; ālambya = in imitation of; sudūra-saṁśravam = which could be heard from a very far distance; udāhṛtam = he uttered; tat = those; vacanam = words; sudāruṇam = very terrible; tvam = You; āgataḥ = and came [to Me]; yena = because of those words; vihāya = gave up; maithilīm = Maithilī.
As soon as he was struck by the arrow, he uttered those very terrible words in a plaintive voice in imitation of My voice, which could be heard from a very far distance. Because of those words, You gave up Maithilī and came [to Me].
