Chapter 65: Lakṣmaṇa Consoles Rāmacandra

चन्द्रे लक्ष्मीः प्रभा सूर्ये गतिर्वायौ भुवि क्षमा।
एतच्च नियतं सर्वं त्वयि चानुत्तमं यशः॥
candre lakṣmīḥ prabhā sūrye gatir vāyau bhuvi kṣamā
etac ca niyataṁ sarvaṁ tvayi cānuttamaṁ yaśaḥ
candre = in the moon; lakṣmīḥ = beauty; prabhā = illumination; sūrye = in the sun; gatiḥ = movement; vāyau = in the wind; bhuvi = in the earth; kṣamā = and tolerance; etat ca = these; niyatam = are invariably; sarvam = all; tvayi = present in You; ca = and; anuttamam = unparalleled; yaśaḥ = fame.
Beauty in the moon, illumination in the sun, movement in the wind and tolerance in the earth—all these and unparalleled fame are invariably present in You.
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: lakṣmy-ādikam ekaikasya prati niyatam.
Beauty is invariably present in the moon, illumination in the sun, movement in the wind and tolerance in the earth.1 But all of them as well as unparalleled fame are invariably present in Rāma.
Śrī Lakṣmaṇa then anticipated that Śrī Rāma might think, “It is because I am sense-controlled that things have come to this state. If I don’t become angry even now, who will be frightened of Me and how can Sītā be obtained?” And so Lakṣmaṇa spoke as follows.
