Chapter 65: Lakṣmaṇa Consoles Rāmacandra
Text 3.65.4

पुरा भूत्वा मृदुर्दान्तः सर्वभूतहिते रतः।
न क्रोधवशमापन्नः प्रकृतिं हातुमर्हसि॥

purā bhūtvā mṛdur dāntaḥ sarva-bhūta-hite rataḥ
na krodha-vaśam āpannaḥ prakṛtiṁ hātum arhasi

purā = previously; bhūtvā = You were; mṛduḥ = soft; dāntaḥ = sense-controlled; sarva-bhūta-hite = in the welfare of all creatures; rataḥ = and absorbed; na = not; krodha-vaśam = under the control of anger; āpannaḥ = come; prakṛtim = Your own nature; hātum = and give up; arhasi = You should.

Previously You were soft, sense-controlled and absorbed in the welfare of all creatures. You should not come under the control of anger and give up Your own nature!

“Your own nature” refers to Śrī Rāma’s nature of being soft, sense-controlled and absorbed in the welfare of all creatures.
