Chapter 68: Jaṭāyu’s Liberation
Text 3.68.2
ममायं नूनमर्थेषु यतमानो विहङ्गमः।
राक्षसेन हतः सङ्ख्ये प्राणांस्त्यक्ष्यति दुस्त्यजान्॥
mamāyaṁ nūnam artheṣu yatamāno vihaṅgamaḥ
rākṣasena hataḥ saṅkhye prāṇāṁs tyakṣyati dustyajān
mama = My; ayam = this; nūnam = certainly; artheṣu = [to accomplish] purposes; yatamānaḥ = while endeavoring; vihaṅgamaḥ = bird; rākṣasena = by the rākṣasa; hataḥ = has been slain; saṅkhye = in a battle; prāṇān = his life; tyakṣyati = he will give up; dustyajān = which is very difficult to [voluntarily] give up.
While endeavoring [to accomplish] My purposes, this bird has been slain by the rākṣasa in a battle. He will certainly give up his life, which is very difficult to [voluntarily] give up.
