यत्तत्प्रेतस्य मर्त्यस्य कथयन्ति द्विजातयः।
तत्स्वर्गगमनं तस्य पित्र्यं रामो जजाप ह॥
yat tat pretasya martyasya kathayanti dvi-jātayaḥ
tat svarga-gamanaṁ tasya pitryaṁ rāmo jajāpa ha
yat = that; tat = these were the mantras; pretasya = for the sake of deceased; martyasya = human beings; kathayanti = recite; dvi-jātayaḥ = the twice-born; tat = the famous mantras; svarga-gamanam = and which lead the deceased to celestial worlds; tasya = for the benefit of Jaṭāyu; pitryam = which are sacred to one’s forefathers; rāmaḥ = Lord Rāma; jajāpa ha = recited.
For the benefit of Jaṭāyu, Lord Rāma recited the famous mantras which are sacred to one’s forefathers and which lead the deceased to celestial worlds. These were the mantras that the twice-born recite for the sake of the deceased human beings.
The mantras Śrī Rāmacandra recited were the Yāmya-sūkta and so on.
