Chapter 68: Jaṭāyu’s Liberation
Text 3.68.33
रोहिमांसानि चोत्कृत्य पेशीकृत्य महायशाः।
शकुनाय ददौ रामो रम्ये हरितशाद्वले॥
rohi-māṁsāni cotkṛtya peśīkṛtya mahā-yaśāḥ
śakunāya dadau rāmo ramye harita-śādvale
rohi-māṁsāni = the flesh of the deer; ca = and; utkṛtya = after taking out; peśīkṛtya = cut it into chunks; mahā-yaśāḥ = of great fame; śakunāya = to the bird; dadau = offered them; rāmaḥ = Rāma; ramye = on pleasant; harita-śādvale = and fresh green grass.
After taking out the flesh of the deer, Rāma of great fame cut it into chunks and offered them to the bird on pleasant and fresh green grass.

NOTE. Fish is Garuḍa’s normal food.1 Similarly, animal flesh is Jaṭāyu’s normal food. Therefore Lord Rāmacandra offered that to him. Both these birds are exalted devotees of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
