Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 69: Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa Meet Kabandha
Text 3.69.47

कालस्य सुमहद्वीर्यं सर्वभूतेषु लक्ष्मण।
त्वां च मां च नरव्याघ्र व्यसनैः पश्य मोहितौ॥

kālasya sumahad vīryaṁ sarva-bhūteṣu lakṣmaṇa
tvāṁ ca māṁ ca nara-vyāghra vyasanaiḥ paśya mohitau

kālasya = time’s; sumahad = very great; vīryam = prowess; sarva-bhūteṣu = over all creatures; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; tvām ca = You; mām = Me; ca = and; nara-vyāghra = O Prince; vyasanaiḥ = with calamities; paśya = [just] see; mohitau = has baffled.

O Prince Lakṣmaṇa, [just] see! Time’s very great prowess over all creatures has baffled You and Me with calamities.

Time’s prowess over all creatures is very great, that is, unchecked. Śrī Rāma wanted to tell Lakṣmaṇa, “Time baffles even You and Me, who possess great strength and exertion, with calamities.”

He then logically establishes this point in the next verse.
