Chapter 70: The Fall of Kabandha
Text 3.70.8
ततस्तौ देशकालज्ञौ खड्गाभ्यामेव राघवौ।
अच्छिन्दतां सुसंहृष्टौ बाहू तस्यांसदेशतः॥
tatas tau deśa-kālajñau khaḍgābhyām eva rāghavau
acchindatāṁ susaṁhṛṣṭau bāhū tasyāṁsa-deśataḥ
tataḥ = then; tau = the; deśa-kālajñau = knew what to do when and where; khaḍgābhyām eva = with Their swords; rāghavau = two descendants of Raghu; acchindatām = They cut off; susaṁhṛṣṭau = in great delight; bāhū = arms; tasya = the rākṣasa’s; aṁsa-deśataḥ = at the shoulder.
The two descendants of Raghu knew what to do when and where. In great delight, They then cut off the rākṣasa’s arms at the shoulder with Their swords.
It is implied here that they were in great delight because They easily cut off [Kabandha’s arms] as if they were plantain stems.
