Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 71: Kabandha’s Past Life
Text 3.71.11

स मया याच्यमानः सन्नानयद्यमसादनम्।
पितामहवचः सत्यं तदस्त्विति ममाब्रवीत्॥

sa mayā yācyamānaḥ san nānayad yama-sādanam
pitāmaha-vacaḥ satyaṁ tad astv iti mamābravīt

saḥ = he; mayā = I; yācyamānaḥ san = when begged him to do so; na = not; ānayat = did send; yama-sādanam = [me] to Yamaloka; pitāmaha-vacaḥ = words of Grandfather Brahmā; satyam = truthful; tat = the; astu iti = may be; mama = me; abravīt = he told.

He did not send [me] to Yamaloka when I begged him to do so. He told me, “May the words of Grandfather Brahmā be truthful!”

“He did not send [me] to Yamaloka when I begged him to do so” means “He did not kill me when I requested him to kill me.” Why? Because of the reason stated in the second line of this verse. Grandfather Brahmā had told him that he would have a long life. Therefore, Indra told him, “I won’t kill you.”
