एवमुक्तस्तु धर्मात्मा दनुना तेन राघवः।
इदं जगाद वचनं लक्ष्मणस्योपशृण्वतः॥
evam uktas tu dharmātmā danunā tena rāghavaḥ
idaṁ jagāda vacanaṁ lakṣmaṇasyopaśṛṇvataḥ
evam = thus; uktaḥ tu = when spoke to Him; dharma-ātmā = the dhārmika soul; danunā = dānava; tena = the; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; idam = the following; jagāda = spoke; vacanam = words; lakṣmaṇasya = while Lakṣmaṇa; upaśṛṇvataḥ = also listened.
When the dānava spoke to Him thus, the dhārmika soul Rāghava spoke the following words while Lakṣmaṇa also listened.
Danunā means “dānava” [here], in a nonliteral sense. A geneological descendant of a person [can be] identified with him.
