Chapter 75: Śrī Rāmacandra Reaches Pampā
Text 3.75.30

ततो महद्वर्त्म सुदूरसङ्क्रमः क्रमेण गत्वा प्रतिकूलधन्वनम्।
ददर्श पम्पां शुभदर्शकाननामनेकनानाविधपक्षिजालकाम्॥

tato mahad vartma sudūra-saṅkramaḥ
krameṇa gatvā pratikūla-dhanvanam
dadarśa pampāṁ śubha-darśa-kānanām
aneka-nānā-vidha-pakṣi-jālakām

tataḥ = through; mahat = a great; vartma = pathway; sudūra-saṅkramaḥ = having walked a very long distance; krameṇa = gradually; gatvā = He passed; pratikūla-dhanvanam = desertlike unfavorable to travelers; dadarśa = and then saw; pampām = Pampā; śubha-darśa-kānanām = the forest by the lake was beautiful to see; aneka-nānā-vidha-pakṣi-jālakām = and there were several flocks of various kinds of birds there.

Having walked a very long distance, He gradually passed through a great desertlike pathway unfavorable to travelers and then saw Pampā. The forest by the lake was beautiful to see and there were several flocks of various kinds of birds there.

The desertlike pathway unfavorable to travelers was the forest of Kabandha. Lord Śrī Rāma passed through it gradually, by destroying several obstacles [on His way].1
