Chapter 10: Ṛśyaśṛṅga Comes to Romapada’s kingdom
Text 1.10.3
ऋश्यशृङ्गो वनचरस्तपःस्वाध्यायने रतः।
अनभिज्ञः स नारीणां विषयाणां सुखस्य च॥
ṛśyaśṛṅgo vanacaras tapaḥ-svādhyāyane rataḥ
anabhijñaḥ sa nārīṇāṁ viṣayāṇāṁ sukhasya ca
ṛśyaśṛṅgaḥ = Ṛśyaśṛṅga; vanacaraḥ = lives in a forest; tapaḥ-svādhyāyane = in austerities and Vedic studies; rataḥ = engaged; anabhijñaḥ = does not know; saḥ = he; nārīṇām = about women; viṣayāṇām = of sense enjoyment; sukhasya = the happiness; ca = and.
Ṛśyaśṛṅga lives in a forest, engaged in austerities and Vedic studies. He does not know about women and the happiness of sense enjoyment.
They implied that Ṛśyaśṛṅga did not know about the nature of women even through the Purāṇas and Itihāsas. Nor did he know about the happiness of enjoying physical sound, touch, form, taste and smell.
