Chapter 11: Daśaratha Brings Ṛśyaśṛṅga to Ayodhyā
Text 1.11.6
श्रुत्वा राज्ञोऽथ तद्वाक्यं मनसा स विचिन्त्य च।
प्रदास्यते पुत्रवन्तं शान्ताभर्तारमात्मवान्॥
śrutvā rājño ’tha tad-vākyaṁ manasā sa vicintya ca
pradāsyate putravantaṁ śāntā-bhartāram ātmavān
śrutvā = hearing; rājñaḥ = of that king; atha tat-vākyam = the words; manasā = with his mind; saḥ vicintya = contemplating about it; ca = and; pradāsyate = Romapāda will give him; putravantam = who could give Daśaratha a son; śāntā-bhartāram = Śāntā’s husband; ātmavān = the intelligent.
Hearing the words of that king and contemplating about it with his mind, the intelligent Romapāda will give him Śāntā’s husband who could give Daśaratha a son.
Romapāda thought within his mind about Daśaratha’s request; he did not consult his ministers. Ṛśyaśṛṅga, the husband of Śāntā, is described here as putravantam, “who could give Daśaratha a son.” Putravantam can also mean “he who had a son,” indicating that Ṛśyaśṛṅga had a son.
